Who should take a Lesson Box course?
Most of our users are students at UK schools and their teachers. But for Business Studies, Physical Education, Media Studies, Food Studies and Child Development we have mature users who are going into business, looking for a career change or wanting to do a foundation course before starting further study in a new subject. Child Development is an ideal course for anyone embarking on parenthood and wants a better understanding of Child Development. Business Studies is great if you are starting your own business but do not have any formal business qualifications.
How do I access my course?
Just become a member and then the courses will all be available to you when you log in. Your progress will be shown in your members area.
Are there prerequisites or language requirements?
This is set out for each course on the subject page but most courses do not assume prior knowledge. The courses are all in English and subject terms are explained. You can always go back to the main presentation at any time for help.
Can I take more than one course at a time?
Yes if you wish, it depends how good you are at multi tasking! BUT you can only log in to one course at a time and on one device at a time.
Can I share my membership?
Only one person can log in at a time so if you share your membership login you could end up being locked out when you want to study. Also the other person would overwrite your course progress and muddy your record through the course. So my answer is – its not a good idea!
How does Lesson Box online learning work?
You start your course and follow the steps. Learn first using the presentation here your progress is noted. You can leave and come back at any time. Then you follow on to explore, reinforcing your learning with some tasks, learning key works, considering key questions and completing assignments. The next stage is revise, the narrator will ask you to consider have you learnt all the key points. Now try the game as an easy fun step to see if you understand the topic. When you are ready you can either try the quiz or the more formal test. Or both! The quiz will give your score and you can review your answers. Your results can be emailed to you. The Test is more – well “testing” and you have to type in fuller answers. But you can always go back to the presentation if you are stuck. It can also supply you with a record of your answers and you can then unlock the correct answers to self mark.
What if I take a break in a study session?
When you take a break if you start again from the same device on the same browser most elements will ask you if you want to start again or carry on where you left off. The Library will also keep a record of where you are up to. The amount of time you spend studying is being noted and your clock will stop after a few minutes and ask you if you are wanting a rest!

If you are a teacher wanting to purely use the course materials in your classroom teaching then you can also take out Scholar. membership. If you are NOT a verifiable U.K teacher the class and tutor memberships are not available to you. if you are a U.K teacher and perhaps are doing some private tutoring or want to support some students unable to be in school then a Tutor Group Membership can be ideal. If you want all of a class of up to 30 to be included then you can get a Class Group Membership.
Can I cancel a subscription?
You can cancel and get a refund only in the first 14 days. This is your statutory cooling off period. See our terms and conditions for more detail. After this period you can cancel further payments but you will not receive a refund. Please contact us as we may be able to help.
I only have an iphone can I still use these courses?
Yes but with some limitations. We have designed the courses to accomodate iphone and Android phones but they are small and the buttons can get fiddly. Iphone changes the way navigation works as well and is slow sometimes in opening embedded narrator videos. Using a bigger device especially a laptop will give a much better experience.
Will there be other subjects and course added to the Library?
Yes, we are working on new ideas for content but we will roll this out as soon as we can. Development work includes, snippets videos, short courses, micro courses. and 360 VR studies. New subjects will begin with support materials for the new Natural History GCSE.
What if the courses do not work on my device?
E learning content is very resource thirsty! We therefore suggest you thoroughly test the free unit content before you buy. You should test it on all your devices and settings where you might study. Teachers need to consider the devices and internet connection of their students at home and the bandwidth that your school has available
Do teachers need a laptop to manage their groups?
Yes, we strongly recommend using a laptop or desktop when managing your group. The detailed reports need screen space and some extra oomph to search and analyse all the information generated.
How do you get feedback on your course?
Lesson Box has two ways to record and feedback to you or your tutor your progress.
1. The built in email reporting on many units will supply you with a detailed record of your answers and scores. This is set by default as your own but can be changed to your tutor’s email.
2. Xapi inbuilt reporting – records all aspects of your progress and this is fed to your tutor if you are part of a group membership, although quiz scores and overall progress also appear on your own member dashboard along with awards for progress.
Are there answer sheets for the Full Test?
Yes there are. Group leaders have access to suggested answers. Individual Scholar Members can request these but they are not supplied directly to Class or Tutor Group members.
Will my answers be marked and recorded automatically?
The keyword check and the main quiz are marked and reported automatically. The other 3 assessed tasks require free typed answers. These are recorded and sent to your email address but not marked. You can submit them to your teacher or self mark them. Group Leaders see these answers in their dashboard if you are a class group member. The Full Test has suggested answer sheets available. (see the question above)
